Tamás Terlaky

Tamás Terlaky’s is the George N. and Soteria Kledaras ’87 Endowed Chair Professor, Industrial, and Systems Engineering Department, Lehigh University.

Terlaky brings to the team his fundamental expertise on interior-point methods, perceptron-like and high-performance computational optimization algorithms. Terlaky is co-author of seminal work in copositive optimization, where conic optimization, techniques beyond semidefinite optimization are used to address difficult combinatorial problems.

Terlaky’s expertise is crucial for the group’s research objectives regarding the development of new hybrid Quantum Computing-Optimization algorithms, the study of numerical complexity in Quantum Computing, and the use of Conic Optimization in Quantum Information theory. Currently, Terlakys’s research is looking at developing and studying the complexity of Quantum Interior Point Methods.

Luis Zuluaga

Luis F. Zuluaga is Associate Professor, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Lehigh University

Zuluaga brings to the team his fundamental expertise in general Conic Optimization, particularly in copositive and polynomial optimization. These techniques are crucial to enlarge the class of problems that can be addressed with Quantum Interior Point Methods. Zuluaga also brings knowledge of quantum mechanics and different decomposition techniques.

Zuluaga’s expertise in these areas is crucial for the group’s research objectives regarding the development of new hybrid Quantum Computing-Optimization algorithms, the use of Conic Optimization in Quantum Information theory, and the use of Quantum Computing Algorithms for general Optimization problems. Currently, Zuluaga’s research is looking at obtaining new and improved QUBO reformulations for certain classes of Combinatorial Optimization Problems.

Boris Defourny

Boris Defourny is an Assistant Professor, Industrial and Systems Engineering Department, Lehigh University

Xiu Yang

Xiu Yang is an Assistant Professor, Industrial and Systems Engineering Department, Lehigh University

Yang brings to the team his fundamental knowledge of computational quantum chemistry, computational mathematics, stochastic processes, uncertainty quantification, and many-particle systems. Furthermore, Yang is an expert in using high-performance computing resources.

Yang’s expertise in these areas is crucial for the group’s research objectives regarding the development of new hybrid Quantum Computing-Optimization algorithms, the use of Conic Optimization in Quantum Information theory, and the use of Quantum Computing Algorithms for general Optimization problems. Currently, Yang’s research is looking at studying the best ways to estimate and filter noise in Noisy Intermediate Size Quantum (NISQ) Devices.

Alain Sarlette

Giacomo Nannicini

Giacomo Nannicini is a Researcher in Mathematical Optimization and Quantum
Algorithms, at IBM T. J. Watson (https://www.ibm.com/quantum-computing/).

Nannicini brings to the team his knowledge of quantum computing (QC) algorithms, complexity, and optimization. This expertise is crucial to support the work in all the proposal objectives.

His involvement in the world-wide recognized IBM’s QC research group will give the team first-hand access to IBM’s latest QC research and knowledge of the software stack

Stefan Wild

Stefan Wild is the Deputy Director of the Mathematics and Computer Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory (https://www.anl.gov/) and Senior Fellow at Northwestern University (https://www.northwestern.edu/).

Wild brings to the team his fundamental knowledge in computational mathematics and optimization under uncertainty. Wild is directing and performing research in quantum chemistry and Quantum Information.

His expertise is crucial to support the work in all the proposal objectives. Moreover, his involvement with Argonne will give the team first-hand access to Argonne’s computing resources and their research results on Quantum Computing.

Monique Laurent

Monique Laurent is a Scientific Staff Member, Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI, https://www.cwi.nl/) and Professor, Tilburg University (https://www.tilburguniversity.edu/). 

Laurent brings to the team fundamental knowledge in quantum information theory, algebraic and geometric optimization methods, combinatorics, and polynomial optimization.

This expertise will be crucial to support the group’s work on the solution of combinatorial optimization problems with quantum computers, and the development of new and improved quantum interior point algorithms.
